“Treasure” is the third single from ‘Unorthodox Jukebox.’ And it continues the 80′s retro-vibe from the last two previously released singles from Bruno Mars. That right there is continuity exhibited by Bruno Mars in keeping all the singles following one theme.
Bruno Mars is acknowledging artists synonymous with the 80′s in the likes of The Police, New Edition, Billy Joel, Earth, Wind And Fire, and Michael Jackson. These respected and iconic artists have, in one way or another, clearly inspired and influenced greatly Bruno Mars in his latest studio-release.

When it comes to the music video for “Treasure,” everything from the choreography, stage lighting, and so on, serve as a heartfelt ode to that era. Watching Bruno Mars and his crew wearing the classic shiny, red outfits dancing and synchronized to a funk-inspired beat can make anyone who lived through the 80′s reminisce about those times or, at the very least, respect what he has done. Visually, the music video is tricked out with set pieces such as a disco ball and vintage stage lights. Even the manner by which the instruments were set up in the background show the attention given to even the minutest of details and the small things do matter when it comes to making a music video.

Royals Lorde

And along comes the anti-Rihanna. 16 year old Ella Yelich-O'Connor, aka Lorde, has one of the strongest pop debuts in recent history. Her debut single "Royals" casts a sidelong glance at wealth, living in the right neighborhood, and conspicuous consumption to champion young people who, "Crave a different kind of buzz." The production is stripped down to such a minimalist level that it highlights Lorde's deadpan vocals as she clearly enunciates every word of the powerful lyrics. Despite the lack of ornamentation, ultimately there is something powerfully romantic about Lorde's fantasies of being, "Queen Bee."

"Royals" comes from the direction of alternative radio. However, the song's structure and melody are pure pop. It makes sense for Lorde to be embraced first by the alternative community because she places "Royals" in direct opposition to a vision of the pop mainstream as obsessed with diamonds, jet planes, and gold teeth. She sings, "We aren't caught up in your love affair." In the tradition of rock musicians of the past becoming champions of outsider groups, Lorde has placed herself as a voice for teens who do not value a current image of pop glamour.

Lorde's "Royals" not only depicts a different understanding of what it means to be successful as a teen in life, but also, as a female solo artist, she runs counter to the most successful alternative pop artists of the most recent generation. She is the first solo female to top the US alternative songs chart in 17 years. As simple as this song may seem on the surface, it is in actuality one of the most powerfully subversive pop hits in recent memory...and that sounds very, very good.

Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball

“Wrecking Ball” is the second single from “Bangerz,” the latest studio-release from Miley Cyrus. Indeed, Miley Cyrus isn’t done with the controversies she has started. When you think of it, how apt that her latest single to be released into the market is entitled ”Wrecking Ball” because in more ways than one, she has become it in the music industry.

Now, to the music itself. While the lyrics in Wrecking Ball show some clear signs of a sincerity about them, they reflect her personal struggles with the abrupt end of her engagement to Liam Hemsworth after her 2013 MTV VMA’s fiasco. In those lines, she still appears emotionally vulnerable and unprepared for all the “setbacks” in her young career! It definitely helped that she was one of the handful of writers who helped pen this song because it lent some truth and credibility to it. The song connected some aspects of her personal life and her professional career.

In terms of the production value of Wrecking Ball, it is comparatively weaker compared to some of her previous works. The track itself sounds more like your everyday standard pop song that you would hear being played in the radio. Just some added info, though. One of the two producers for this said single is Dr. Luke who also happens to be one of the producers for Katy Perry’s latest album “Prism.” Could it be that the making of Wrecking Ball was made only during the spare time of producer Dr. Luke? I just think that the track needed a little more polishing to emphasize on the improving vocal work Miley Cyrus has shown as of late.

Katy Perry Roar

 "Roar" is a song by Katy Perry and the lead single from her fourth studio album, Prism (2013). Composed by Perry, Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee, and Cirkut, "Roar" is a midtempo power pop song; its lyrics address standing up for oneself.

Some music critics deemed "Roar" a "determined note" for Prism, and described it as a "sure-to-be radio hit". However other critics thought the lyrics were predictable, "cheesy" and contained "clichés"; describing the song as "more of a yelp than a roar". Upon the release, Perry received significant negative press due to accusations of plagiarism stemming from "uncomfortably close" similarities between "Roar" and Sara Bareilles' "Brave".
The single became the singer's eighth non-consecutive US Billboard Hot 100 number one, and topped music charts in eight other countries. The music video for "Roar" was released on September 5, 2013, which was directed by Grady Hall and Mark Kudsi, and filmed at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden.

Eminem Berzerk

It has been years since I heard an Eminem song that got me excited again and got me wanting to review it immediately. I speak of Eminem’s latest offering “Berzerk” from his highly anticipated upcoming studio-release ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2.’
Eminem’s lyrical flow in “Berzerk” is off the charts–he is shooting off his words as if he was in a different time zone. The production focuses on a heavy beat and it delivers big time to the listener.
“Berzerk” samples a few lines and also, most notably the guitar riff of the “The Stroke” from Billy Squir. The way legendary producer Rick Rubin incorporated and mixed in portions of the latter song not only put the much needed emphasis on the heaviness of “Berzerk” but it provided the whole nostalgic “throw-back feel” to it as well.

Strikingly, Eminem mentions iconic Hip-Hop artists like The Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and MC Ren of N.W.A. in “Berzerk” and thus, he pays homage to them. He then makes an above-face, and takes quick verbal jabs at other current Hip-Hop artists like Timbaland and Birdman. He also makes fun of Khloe Kardashian who he refers to as the ”the ugly Kardashian” , and of Lamar Odom’s current predicament with alleged substance abuse.
